Artist's Statement

My work in watercolor began as a language taught to me by my mom, an artist who had been classically trained in Italy and the Art Students League in New York. With that as a foundation, I use watercolor as a kind of calligraphy to capture and convey light as it drapes over the landscape and still life subjects that I'm drawn to. Transposing that light is, for me, an evolving process, inspired by the work of artists like William Merritt Chase, Winslow Homer, and Charles Hawthorne, among others. I remain focused on the discipline of seeing and discerning the color of light more accurately, as I remain open to interpreting the interaction of color in the environment and on the canvas and paper.
